Professional college admissions counselor Susan McAdams has a background
steeped in education, spanning early childhood development through
adolescence. Throughout her years in the classroom, Susan discovered her
talent for working with high school students as they embark on the emotional
journey of college preparation. Putting her skills into practice, Susan founded
Hourglass Prep, where she provides college counseling services in a highly
personalized, detail-oriented format.

The challenges and stress posed by the college application process can be a
trying time for families. Susan has experienced it from both sides--as a professional and also as a parent. She has two children in college and one in middle school, and she knows that the most essential part of her work is helping students and their families navigate through the steps of applying to college with empathy, humor and encouragement.

What can a professional college counselor do for you?

According to a recent New York Times article, high schools nationwide are struggling with staggering ratios of students to guidance counselors. Nationally, that ratio is nearly 500 to 1, and when it comes time to apply to college, all students need assistance at once. A professional counselor bridges that gap and provides crucial support along a rapidly moving timeline, allowing a student to work efficiently at creating the best possible academic resume for college.

sets, achievements and motivations. I meet each client exactly where he or she is and develop a
